Our Story

Since 1991, El Sol Neighborhood Educational Center has been a trusted, community-rooted nonprofit serving vulnerable populations across the Inland Empire. From the start, our work has centered monolingual Spanish speakers, immigrant families, and individuals with limited English proficiency—communities often overlooked or underserved.

El Sol began with the principles of popular education, offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to migrant community members and supporting them in overcoming language barriers. This commitment to learning, dignity, and self-determination continues to guide us.

Training and Supporting CHWs

At the heart of El Sol’s mission is the belief that community members are the most powerful agents of change. We train and support CHW/Ps to educate, support, and mobilize their neighbors.

Through this model, CHWs improve access to care, increase self-efficacy, and guide individuals through complex systems. Whether addressing prenatal care, chronic disease, or mental health, they meet people where they are—both literally and culturally.

Organizing for Collective Health

Our CHWs go beyond one-on-one outreach—they build collective power. From food access initiatives to neighborhood safety efforts, they mobilize residents to tackle the social determinants of health.

El Sol strengthens cross-sector collaboration and supports the integration of CHWs into schools, clinics, and community-based teams. We also build capacity across organizations, ensuring the CHW model is implemented with care, quality, and equity at its core.

Advocating for Systemic Change

El Sol understands that health outcomes are shaped by policies. Through our Community Engagement Initiative, we equip residents to engage in civic life and advocate for structural change.

By elevating community voices, our CHWs influence policies that support healthy, sustainable environments from public health to economic equity. Our cross-cultural, intergenerational approach seeks that decision-makers hear directly from those most affected.t uplifts communities from within.

Our Impact:
